Conspiracy Intrigue

The suspense and drama continue in Andrew Huff's newest novel, "Cross Shadow." Reporter Christine Lewis is asked to check into the arrest of her stepbrother in Texas for murder but to her surprise and indignation John Cross has followed her to Dallas. What follows is a cat and mouse game to find out why Christine's stepbrother is being framed for murder while being shot at and chased. Not only does this story explore more of the relationship between Christine and John; it explores John's life as a pastor and a former CIA agent and his relationship with God. Can he live with a foot in both worlds? How can he reconcile lying to find the truth? This is a fast paced read with endearing characters. I am secretly rooting for Christine and John to discover how to make their relationship work as the reader is left wondering at the end of the book. Amish Mystery

Wanda E. Brunstetter brings readers an Amish mystery called "The Crow's Call." Set in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, we are reunited with the King family under tragic circumstances. Vernon King, his son Abe, and son-in-law Toby are tragically killed in a buggy accident leaving the remaining family members struggling to deal with the loss and run the family greenhouse business. Ezekiel King and his wife, Michelle, offer to return to Pennsylvania from their new home in New York but his mother declines. Belinda King believes she can make a go of it with the help of her daughters, Amy and Sylvia, and her youngest son Henry. As each member struggles with their grief, mysterious events begin to occur in the greenhouse making Belinda's job much harder. But who could be doing the vandalism? Henry? Neighborhood kids? The new garden center owner? And why does Belinda's boyfriend from her youth show up unexpectedly? This book has a lot going on with the characters and tries to tell the story from several of the characters perspectives. Wonder what will happen in the second book in this series! Stay tuned! His current day occupation is that of a daredevil since injuries do not kill him. But he is not alone. He belongs to a close knit group of three others who are immortal only to discover there are several others as well. Four of them have recently died. Murder? Suicide? And who murdered them? Why? Zac tries to find the answers while coming face to face with God who he abandoned when his mortal family died. The plot of this book produce an interesting dilemma of living forever, never dying, and our relationship with God. This is the second book in the series and would recommend reading the first book before hand. Otherwise, it takes a few chapters to get into the book to understand what is happening. Reading She Laughs: Choosing Faith Over Fear, produces those belly laughs. Carolanne Miljavac's latest novel reads like two friends visiting each other over a cup of tea sharing their lives - the good, the bad, and the ugly - all with laughter! Each chapter focuses on a fear that one can experience in life and then how laughter can help you through that experience, that moment. I so can relate to some of the experiences that Miljavac writes about in her book, particularly the bathroom experience. My heart resonated with the statement Miljavac writes "it takes so much more strength to live each day with a humble heart than to bulldoze through life driven by pride (p.100)." So true. Start the new year, the new month, a new week by reading She laughs. Your stress hormones will be oh so thankful for the vacation! Fast Paced

If you are looking for a suspenseful story full of action and drama, then look no further than Andrew Huff's "A Cross to Kill." The book starts out with a hostage journalist being rescued from the clutches of terrorists by a CIA operative named John. That is the only name he gives to Christine upon her rescue. But Christine can not stop thinking of the man who risked his life to save her, if only to properly thank him. Her investigation leads her to small-town church and its pastor - John Cross. What happens next is nothing short of an adrenaline rush as John's past becomes his present nightmare. How does a man changed by Jesus Christ deal with his past life as a CIA assassin is one of the issues addressed. As a first novel for the author, Huff does a great job! Short but Meaningful

Don't have time to read a lengthy novel? Want a quick escape? Then "Amish Front Porch Stories" by Wanda E. Brunstetter, Jean Brunstetter, and Richelle Brunstetter is the book to read. Each of the 18 stories are quick reads with a moral at the end. So not only do you get a nice story set among the Amish community but also a Bible verse to ponder after reading the story that can be applied to life. There are stories on forgiveness, gossip, anger, and meekness. Personally, I think the conception of this book was a great idea for those with busy lives who still want to read a meaningful story. Standing In God's Will

If you need motivated or inspired; If you feel life has given you a lemon; then, you need to read "Standing Together" by Carlos and Rosemarie Evans. Carlos joined the marines to serve our country and on his fourth deployment he stepped on an IED losing both legs and his left arm. Even though Carlos is a Christian, there were times during his recovery when he became angry and depressed. Rosemarie, also a Christian, had her faith tested during Carlos's recovery but she stayed by his side through thick and thin. This story allows the reader to experience what it is like to serve in the military and come back injured. The ups and downs. The sadness and the joy. But mostly how God used this experience to strengthen the Evans marriage while creating a new vocation for Carlos. It was a blessing for me to read this book to learn more about what wounded warriors experience.
