Fast Paced

If you are looking for a suspenseful story full of action and drama, then look no further than Andrew Huff's "A Cross to Kill." The book starts out with a hostage journalist being rescued from the clutches of terrorists by a CIA operative named John. That is the only name he gives to Christine upon her rescue. But Christine can not stop thinking of the man who risked his life to save her, if only to properly thank him. Her investigation leads her to small-town church and its pastor - John Cross. What happens next is nothing short of an adrenaline rush as John's past becomes his present nightmare. How does a man changed by Jesus Christ deal with his past life as a CIA assassin is one of the issues addressed. As a first novel for the author, Huff does a great job! Short but Meaningful

Don't have time to read a lengthy novel? Want a quick escape? Then "Amish Front Porch Stories" by Wanda E. Brunstetter, Jean Brunstetter, and Richelle Brunstetter is the book to read. Each of the 18 stories are quick reads with a moral at the end. So not only do you get a nice story set among the Amish community but also a Bible verse to ponder after reading the story that can be applied to life. There are stories on forgiveness, gossip, anger, and meekness. Personally, I think the conception of this book was a great idea for those with busy lives who still want to read a meaningful story. Standing In God's Will

If you need motivated or inspired; If you feel life has given you a lemon; then, you need to read "Standing Together" by Carlos and Rosemarie Evans. Carlos joined the marines to serve our country and on his fourth deployment he stepped on an IED losing both legs and his left arm. Even though Carlos is a Christian, there were times during his recovery when he became angry and depressed. Rosemarie, also a Christian, had her faith tested during Carlos's recovery but she stayed by his side through thick and thin. This story allows the reader to experience what it is like to serve in the military and come back injured. The ups and downs. The sadness and the joy. But mostly how God used this experience to strengthen the Evans marriage while creating a new vocation for Carlos. It was a blessing for me to read this book to learn more about what wounded warriors experience. Do cemeteries give you shivers? Have you ever thought about robbing a grave of its body? Then this historical fiction, "The Yellow Lantern," is a must read. Josephine Clayton is thought to be dead after having been very ill and buried. But Josephine awakens to find she has been snatched from the grave by the very doctor she worked for and becomes his next research subject. Her father's coworker convinces the doctor to allow Josephine to live and in exchange she will work at a cotton mill sending home her wages to help pay her father's debt and find the next corpse to take her place as a research subject. Only the web is wider and deeper than Josephine realizes. However, she won't stop till she finds out who is behind this network of corpse robbing so that her father can be free. A delightful mystery with enough twists to keep the reader engaged till the very end. Oh, you may not want to read this at night! Climaxed Ending

Wanda E. Brunstetter concludes her trilogy series The Prayer Jars in the final book "The Healing Jar." The focus in this third installment is on Lenore Lapp, Mary and Willis Lapp's granddaughter, who feels love has left her behind. Lenore teaches school to the Amish children in her community. A job she enjoys till she meets Jesse Smucker. Jesse is a widower with an infant daughter, new to the district, and looking for someone to care for his daughter and home. But Lenore is hoping he will want to be more than a friend. In the meantime, Sara is adjusting to her life married to Brad and Michelle must decide about moving away from the Amish community with her husband, Ezekiel. The scripture verses in the mason jars are discovered by Lenore who learns that Michelle and Sara both know about the jars but not who wrote them. In this final book, the mason jars give up their secret in who wrote the verses and who Sara's real father is, bringing healing to the Lapp family in more ways than one. A touching story for those who enjoy reading about the Amish. But also a story of courage and forgiveness. Dreams. We all dream but for many women their dreams are put on hold for a variety of reasons: marriage, children, parents, jobs. Tiffany Bluhm in "She Dreams" encourages women to follow their dreams. Bluhm writes that women are created "on purpose with a purpose." As a woman I need to trust God and believe in the dreams he has created for me. Bluhm uses the story of Moses as the Biblical background to build her case of how God cares for each of us and wants the best for us including following the dreams He has given each woman. I found this book to be encouraging and uplifting. There is also a Bible study guide to go with the book.
