Judd Markley leaves behind West Virginia after surviving a coal mining accident that toke his brother's life in "The Sound of Rain" by Sarah Loudin Thomas. His brother had wanted to go to South Carolina so Judd decides to fulfill that dream. He is offered a job as a logger, takes up residence at a boarding house, and visits the beach. As his new life begins, Judd meets Larkin Hayward, the owner's daughter. Larkin has her own dreams but her parents want to see her settled not off chasing her dream that would take her to the Appalachian world. Larkin manages to use her charm on Judd to escape her parents. But at what cost neither one knows. Each has their own agenda, their own dreams; not to mention a family secret that could tear the family apart. Enjoy unexpected twists in the plot while meeting interesting, charming characters. First book I have read by this author but it won't be the last. A great story teller!
